Purpose of role:

To contribute to the effective, efficient and safe operation of the transport office by dealing with incoming queries, quotes and tasks for a range of different LGV size vehicles via email and telephone, data entry and other duties as required in support of the business. To deal with the team of drivers in an effective manner and acting at all times in accordance with company procedures, health and safety legislation and the terms and conditions of all statutory licences, permits and permissions.

Skills:

Excellent customer service skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills. 

Work efficiently to ensure that duties are carried out in a timely manner.

Effectively manage Drivers Hours Regulations in accordance with customer requirements and Working Time Directive.

Strong analytical route planning skills with good knowledge of the UK road network and postcodes to achieve economical transport plans.

Problem solving and with the ability to work unsupervised when required.

Strong negotiation skills.

Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications. 

Duties and responsibilities:

To receive incoming telephone calls from customers, deal with their requests, give quotes, confirm tasks and liaise with drivers to ensure a successful completion of task.

Promote positive communication between customers, office staff and drivers.

Prompt data entry using in-house computer systems to make sure that information is up to date and relevant.

Issue weekly/daily workloads and instructions to the driving team.

Briefing drivers on their future tasks and daily workloads, calling for regular updates and dealing with issues that may occur.

Be part of the on-call rota.

Update customers of delays and any problems with deliveries. 

General office administration duties including filing of proof of deliveries.

General housekeeping to make sure that working areas are clean and tidy.

Job Title

The title of the role for which you are employed is Traffic Planner reporting to the Transport Operations Supervisor. This title does not limit your duties and the company may, from time to time, require you to undertake any work within your capacity.

Place of Work:

Your place of work is Sterling House, Sterling Services UK Ltd, Millshaw Park Avenue, Millshaw Park, LEEDS, LS11 0LR, although the company may, from time to time, require you to work at other locations, either on a permanent or temporary basis.

Working Routine:

The working routine will be 0745 – 1800hrs Monday to Friday. You may be required to work the occasional weekends.
