With all the emphasis being placed on apprenticeships recently, we here at West Riding Recruitment were wondering how well the schemes were paying in different sectors. Many are now deciding to choose the apprenticeship route above doing a degree, so we think there certainly must be a reason as to why these schemes are gaining more momentum.

1. Financial Services Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships available in financial services can range in specialisms from investment or operations to IT and HR. The big providers of these include JP Morgan, Barclays, Lloyds and Santander. Apprenticeships in Financial Services tend to be based in London, or other large cities around the UK and often come with a guaranteed job offer once the apprenticeship has been successfully completed.

Starting Salary in these schemes range between £15,000 – £21,996. Applicants often require three C grades at A-Level or equivalent. English and Maths at grade B or above at GCSE level.

2. Business and Accountancy Apprenticeships

The big accountancy firms such as PwC, KPMG, Deloitte and EY are all great providers of apprenticeship schemes like this. They offer school leavers to become fully-qualified chartered accountants without completing a degree.

They also span a number of sectors within the business, such as, assurance, technology management consultancy, deals and taxes. The schemes tend to last around three to five years to complete and generally city based.

Starting Salary in these schemes range from £17,000 to £20,000. Five GCSE’s including Maths and English at grade C or above, or three A-levels at grade C are required to undertake these schemes.

3. Legal Apprenticeships

Shortly, the government will launch an apprenticeship scheme which will enable school leavers to become fully-qualified solicitors without completing a degree. The scheme enables students to go straight from school to conduct work-based learning and assessment that gives them the qualification of solicitor.

Starting Salary in these schemes are expected to start at £17,000. Requirements include five GCSE’s including Maths and English at grade C or above and three A-levels at grade C.
